OUR STORY
The vision for a mobile shower unit emerged in the fall of 2023, as we witnessed more and more individuals in Berks County struggling without consistent access to basic hygiene. Initially, we explored adding shower facilities at specific locations—but quickly realized the need was too widespread for a stationary solution.​​
That’s when the idea of a mobile shower trailer was born: a unit that could travel to multiple sites across the county and offer clean, safe showers to anyone in need—no questions asked. We officially established REFRESH BERKS as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and, with the support of a state grant from Senator Judy Schwank, purchased a shower trailer and truck to tow the trailer. Plans for a garage to house and maintain the unit are now underway.
Our fundraising efforts have already received strong backing from a couple local churches, the Berks Coalition to End Homelessness, Common Ground Recovery Community, Tower Health –Reading Hospital, and more!
We anticipate launching our first initial trials with the trailer in fall 2025. We look forward to many more community members and partners joining us in our mission.
